Chinese Clans' sectarian mindset is barrier to integration

Forget about all the xenophobic hooha cries claiming that foreigners are not able to integrate with Singaporeans. Our very own heartlanders are doing a better job disintegrating the Singapore society. Who are these people? The clannish Chinese Clans.

I am not against any party advancing sectarian causes. I take issue when these lobbyists push their sectarian agenda and make it a national cause. As if those who have no links to their cause don't exist!

Unique Singapore identity a must: Heng Swee Keat
Note that the "unique culture" Singaporeans must have is.... Chinese Culture. Duh. What about the non-Chinese? They no Sinkieporeans, Mr Minister?

3:25 min - Deputy Secretary General of Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations says, "We hope that the teaching of Mandarin will be a priority at all levels, from pre-school to junior college."

Also note the opinion of the Association's President that follows, implying that strong roots with culture will help Singapore have an identity. Yeah, again, linking Chinese roots to Singaporean identity? What's this chauvinistic clannish mindset again?

More reports below.

Clan members hold national conversation session
At the first national conversation session organised by the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations, many clan representatives expressed hope in passing on their passion for the Chinese language and culture to future generations.

One of the representatives said this could also help to develop a uniquely Singaporean culture. He said in the 1960s, works by many local Chinese writers often exuded a strong Singaporean flavour and this is what they hope can continue in the future.

Wazzat again? Passing on passion for Chinese Language and Culture helps develop a uniquely Singapore culture? Helloooo? You mean non-Chinese cultures don't count? Who are these chauvinists to think that their Chinese Culture is so important to Singapore that their culture dictates the flavour of what a unique Singapore culture would be?

These chauvinists don't care a hoot about the cultures of others. Not all Singaporeans are Chinese to be able to appreciate Chinese culture, such that Chinese Culture is so important it should even be thought as an agent to develop a unique Singapore Culture.

Heck, even many Chinese themselves are not able to feel passion for Chinese Culture to start with, let alone non-Chinese! With such insensitivity displayed by the Chinese "Clanners" , who needs xenophobes to break up the unity and integration of Singaporeans?

As if that is not enough, these clanners once again have to involve the Mother Tongue, hoping to use that subject to advance their sectarian cause. Report below.

SG Conversation: Clans and students share ideas

More Mandarin should be taught as early as pre-school, and there should be more emphasis on Chinese language and culture throughout the education system, clan leaders said yesterday.

They called for more classroom time for the Chinese language, saying it could help Singapore's national development as a whole.

Now why should Mandarin be made the platform in schools to help Singapore's national development? Not everyone speaks Mandarin. Especially the non-Chinese. This sectarian and self-centred suggestion does not bode well one bit for the integration of Singaporeans.

If these sectarian clannish Chinese want to preserve Chinese culture and language, that is fine with me. Start a campaign that does not affect others at a national scale. By tying Chinese culture and language as platform for national identity, as well as introducing such into schools, have not these sectarians ignored the sensitivities of the non-Chinese and non-speaking Chinese citizens? As if non-Chinese cultures don't count!

Here are more links that I have written in the past, showing how insensitive these clannish sectarian Chinese can be:
Heng Swee Keat avoids answering racially sensitive question on SAP
Chinese Chauvinism Rampant at Heart of MT Issue
Chinese Chauvinism at the heart of bilingualism

It really looks like the real stumbling block to integrating Singaporeans aren't foreigners or even xenophobic Singaporeans. It looks like the very influential Chinese Clans who wish to stick to their clannish behaviour and mindset is the main barrier here.

The irony of it all .Tang Liang Hong was derided as a Chinese chauvinist for saying things like that. No prizes for guessing who is the most chauvinistic of them all. There are rewards for those who carry out their agenda.

Barrie is a moron. Don't listen too much into his rhetoric. This guy bashes gays, doesn't think "marital rape" is valid, and is a general all-round moron. Read his article with a pinch of salt. Amongst other things, this guy thinks evolution is a "myth". He's into some kind of crazy agenda. Just don't buy into his nonsense.

Yongwah, stop spamming. You already posted those comments at other sites under your fake ID Roy Chui, which is actually Beast. All your spams prove that you are indeed a Chinese chauvinist on top of being an Islamophobe and Christianphobe. You cannot tahan to see how Barrie manages to prove that the Malays are not as bad as what the Chinese chauvinists claim them to be. Furthermore he even showed through history that the Chinese chauvinists have a shameful past. It is you who have an axe to grind against Barrie.

Yongwah is the guy who is the bigot and chauvinist. Look at what he said when he was just a student in the 1990s.

Yong-Wah Goh, a Singaporean student, says he doesn't think there's been any real backlash. And although he can't speak for the Malays or the Indians, he says they aren't threatened by such programs because they have such a strong hold on their culture and traditions. And he suggests the government needs to push Chinese Singaporeans even harder..

We're at a point today where many current generations of Chinese do not have an understanding of basic Chinese tradition. Many do not even wish to use their Chinese names . . . and some have even reached the extreme of feeling inferior for being Chinese," says Goh.

He says before there can be any type of real national unity each group must feel secure and proud of it's own individual culture.

He has no non-Chinese friends yet he wants have a policy that affects them. Such a bigot. This also explains his strange hate for Muslims and Christians. Very self-centred person in a living in self-delusional world.
