Let's support death penalty - for hardcore rapists

Regular readers know that while I am against the Mandatory Death Penalty, I am all for the Death Penalty. The Death Penalty is a strong deterrence against hardcore criminals like cold-blooded murderers. My argument has always been that if you allow that cold blooded murderer to live out his sentence, he may one day be free to kill again. Here are some of my past posts that discussed that.

Gang rape, the worst of all rapes -

Much has been reported about the gang rape victim from India who eventually died at Singapore's Mt Elizabeth Hospital. Report here - In Indian student's gang rape, murder, two worlds collide

Extract:
In the moments before the December 16 attack, the 23-year-old woman from India's urban middle class, who had recently qualified as a trainee physiotherapist in a private Delhi hospital, and her male friend, a software engineer, were walking home from a cinema at a shopping mall in south Delhi, according to a police reconstruction of events.

A bus, part of a fleet of privately owned vehicles used as public transport across the city of 16 million, and known as India's "rape capital", was at the same time heading toward them. Earlier that day, it had ferried school students but was now empty except for five men and a teenage boy, including its crew, police said. Most of the men were from the city's slums.

One of the six - all now charged with murder - lured the couple onto the bus, promising to drop the woman home, police have said, quoting from an initial statement that she gave from her hospital bed before her condition deteriorated rapidly.

A few minutes into the ride, her friend, 28, grew suspicious when the bus deviated from the supposed route and the men locked the door, according to her statement. They then taunted her for being out with a man late at night, prompting the friend to intervene and provoking an initial scuffle.

The attackers then beat him with a metal rod, knocking him unconscious, before turning on the woman who had tried to come to his defense. Police say the men admitted after their arrest to torturing and raping the student "to teach her a lesson".

At one point, the bus driver gave the wheel to another of the accused and dragged the woman by the neck to the back of the vehicle and forced himself upon her. The other five then took turns raping her and also driving the bus, keeping it circling through the busy streets of India's capital city, police said.

The woman was raped for nearly an hour before the men pushed a metal rod inside her, severely damaging her internal organs, and then dumped both her and her friend on the roadside, 8 km (5 miles) from where they had boarded it, police said.

The above crime is of beastly proportion. Why should these hardcore criminal rapists be allowed to live to rape more women?

Removing patriarchy not the way to go, introducing death sentence is -

There is an argument put up by a fellow blogger who believes that removing patriarchy from society is the way to prevent rapes - PATRIARCHAL VALUES AND THE DEATH PENALTY. I can understand the angle the author is coming from, in view of the fact that she is a feminist as well as an anti-death penalty campaigner.

I feel that the above is ineffective. The crime committed is a full scale hardcore gang rape. Note the emotionless state of mind of the rapists -

1. Beating her boyfriend unconscious, presumably so that they can gang rape her unhindered.

2. Driving the bus for an hour while they take turns to rape.

3. Not satisfied with their monstrous lust, they rammed a metal rod up her (for whatever sadistic and bizarre reasons that they seem to sexually enjoy), damaging her inner organs - which proved to be fatal days later.

4. Dumping her and her friend half naked after they finished their inhumane act of shame and crime.

Anyone truly believes that the removal of patriarchy will end such dastardly monstrous acts? Or is it the introduction of harsh deterrence and penalties that would do the job more effectively?

To anti-death penalty campaigners who think I am too harsh, are you willing to allow these hardcore rapists to walk around again to rape (and possibly kill) more women? If you do, remember that the next victim could be the one you love. Your mother. Your sister. Your wife. Your daughter. And if you are a female, what about yourself?

Is life sentence without parole not an option in this instance? I am against the death penalty and as much as I agree that such criminals should not be allowed to walk the streets of India again or anywhere else for that matter, I also believe it is not up to us humans to decide on whether or not to let another human live or die (albeit the heinous crimes he/she has committed). Doesn't feel right to play God in that sense.

The world’s three major religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) have followers that make up nearly half of the world’s population. In their scriptures, God has sanctioned the death penalty.

Who is anyone to claim that we are “playing God” when what is carried out is sanctioned by God himself?

The "playing God" argument does not work.

As for life sentence w/o parole, that is not going to work. If Human Rights activists can argue that death penalty is inhumane, what makes you think they won't push for the next step - ie life sentence w/o parole is also inhumane.

When that happens, you will have walking murderers and hardcore rapists recycled in the streets, after they complete their sentences or when they are given parole.

For anyone who still has doubts about the death penalty for these brutes, the fact that they pulled out her uterus and 95% of her intestines with the rusted iron rod after raping her and continued to rape her after that should calm their nerves about 'PLAYING GOD'.
