What this article is about -
This article takes a look at how Israel created Hamas decades ago, with the intention to undermine the Palestinians. It also takes a look at how America's interference in the politics of others, that is the factor that creates fertile ground for rebel groups to rise and flourish.
Quick history of Hamas -
Hamas is the creation of Israel. Mossad, more specifically. Ariel Sharon (war criminal indicted under the Kahan Inquiry for the massacre of Sabre and Shatila in 1983 and ex-PM of Israel), even more specifically. Hey, only in Israel do you have war criminals who are not only left unpunished after indictment, but also able to serve the country as PM! Even Hitler's officers didn't have that honour!
I wrote a quick note in 2010 why Israel created Hamas. The reason was that Israel wanted to undermine the PLO, headed then by Yasser Arafat. You see, Israel NEVER wants peace. The moment they sense a major Palestinian group wants to make peace (ie then PLO), they fund a deviant group (Hamas) to undermine the main group.
Of course today, Hamas stands on its own feet and is the democratically elected govt of Gaza. And again, Israel undermines this legal govt, by funding its puppet, Abbas!
Here is what I wrote about Hamas, child of Israel - ST Forum - Attack on the Flotilla
Hamas was created by Israel, specifically, by Ariel Sharon (an ex-PM of Israel) - Sharon's Terror Child
Hamas is considered one of Israel's greatest threats, but the Islamic terrorist organization found its beginnings in the misguided Israeli effort to encourage the rise of a religious alternative that would undermine the popularity of the Palestine Liberation Organization and Yasir Arafat. The purpose of creating Hamas was to undermine the authority of Yasser Arafat, then President of PLO. During this time Israel funded Hamas and it was from 1970s to 1990s that acts of terror were rampant.
The strategy resulted in the birth of Hamas which rose from these Islamic roots. Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was a member of the government when the policy was developed in the late 1970s.
As the years went by, Palestinians who sympathetic towards the Palestinian cause started to replace the pro-Israeli camp within Hamas. In 2006, long after Hamas has dropped its links with Israel, it became the govt of Gaza.
It is interesting to note that during the Terror Era of Hamas, it was funded by Israel. However, after breaking its links with Israel, it now itself became a target of Israel. Israel claims it is at war with Hamas and that gives Israel legal reason to bomb Gazans. But that being the case, today, Hamas has legal reason to bomb Israel too, because it is at war, isn't it?
So for those who insist Hamas is a terror organization, please note that the Terror Era of Hamas was sponsored by Israel. Today, it no longer engages terror acts, but legal self-defence because it is the legal govt and is at war with Israel.
Hamas' Charter calls for Eradication of Israel - I find this a weak argument. First, the Hamas Charter is not in English. Many people read the English translated version, which is translated by Western Media. A lot of meaning is lost.
Secondly, it is not what is in the charter but what is done that counts. Here is Hamas willingness to talk to Israel. Hamas 'ready to talk to Israel'
Wednesday, 8 February 2006, 15:45 GMT
The political leader of Palestinian militant group Hamas has said it is willing to take a serious step towards peace if Israel does the same.
Khaled Meshaal told the BBC that Hamas would not renounce violence, saying resisting an occupation was legal.
Very importantly, note the date of the news article - 8 Feb 2006. This shows Hamas' sincerity as they did not linger and wait but immediately offered to talk right after they won the elections. Hamas won the Elections in Jan 2006.
So the reason that Hamas is out to erase Israel from the map is a non-argument that can no longer be used.
US interference is the trigger for the birth of many rebel groups around the world -
It is no secret that US interferes much in the Mid East. As for Israel, US gives its unwavering support (including covering up war crimes for Israel), at the expense of its neighbours, in particular, the Palestinians. Hence, it can be said that the rise of Hamas is partly due to America's high handed policy on foreign affairs.
However, there are other rebel groups around the world that rise due to America's direct oppression. I have discussed that too. There was a debate on Channel News Asia last year. The debaters incidentally touched on this topic. Here is the post I published - CNA Debate: Religious Fundamentalism is a threat to Asia's future
Some other good points missed (probably due to time constraint) -As can be seen from the above points, many of these rebel groups sprout up because of an external agent provocateur. Usually it is the US. As for Hamas, its agent provocateur is Israel.
There are so many points that the Opposition could have brought up, but due to time constraint, they were not. Again, concentrating on the main argument that it is due to external interference from an agent provocateur, rather than religion itself, that's the real threat.
Here's a list of other points to consider.
1. The overflow and spilling of the war from Afghanistan to Pakistan has again fueled politically driven parties in Pakistan to use religion against the US.
2. Still on the topic "spillover", America's stealth drone deep in Iran also stoked political repercussion from a very religious based govt in Iran.
3. If one goes further back in time, wasn't it the US who funded and supported the Shah of Iran that led to the Iranian Revolution in 1979?
4. Osama bin Laden and his forces (now called Al Qaida by US) was trained by the CIA to fend off the Soviets. Again, note the involvement of secular US that gave birth to a group that is considered "fundamentalist".
5. Likewise, it was America who supplied chemical weapons to Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s. Saddam and his gang then became America's and Asia's "threat" that has to be gotten rid of.
My comments and view -
Israel considers Hamas a terror group. That is horse manure coming out from Israel's mouth. Hamas today is the legally elected govt of Gaza.
It must be remembered that it was Israel who funded Hamas in the early stages. Israel's idea was to undermine the authority of Yasser Arafat then, and to stall any potential peace dealings the Palestinians may strike with Israel.
It must be also remembered that all the early terror attacks by Hamas was funded by Israel! Today, with its links cut off from Israel, it no longer carries out terror attacks but legally defends its land, the way Israel legally defends its land. Irony is that for all the claims made against Hamas for terror actions, those terror actions then were funded by Israel itself!
It looks very much like Israel doesn't want peace. It wants wars and it wants to eradicate the Palestinian population. That has been their master plan since 1948. It wants all of Palestine to itself. In fact, it even wants to create a Greater Israel that encroaches into the whole of Jordan, and major portions of lands in Syria, Egypt, Iraq and even Saudi, America's strongest ally in the Mid East other than Israel itself.
The Ongoing Plot To Create “Greater Israel”

Hey, even Turkey and Kuwait are not spared! Aren't Zionists greedy for land that's not even theirs? Who is wiping who off the map?
Final word -
Finally, in conclusion, for those who keep saying that Hamas, Hezbollah, or any other Palestinian group are extremists, using Islam to further their political cause, this is the point I made in the CNA debate I linked earlier - CNA Debate: Religious Fundamentalism is a threat to Asia's future.
In today's context, religion on its own cannot move the masses. It is a pull factor rather than push. Societies turn to religion BECAUSE they are disillusioned with the corrupted material secular world, nosing its way into the cultures of others. Then when an agent provocateur from that secular society interferes with the native countries' societal norms, that's when religion is the anti-dote that the native society seeks, and the flash point is triggered.
The US, the West, and other hypocrites who have been supporting Zionist Israel to kill Palestinians, have to realise it is their action (and inaction to stop the massacres by Israel), that has given the rise of these rebel groups, whom are now branded as "extremists" or "terrorists".
